Trail Blazers Summer Tour ’08: Roseburg and Canyonville

After a restful night in the splendorous surroundings of Seven Feathers, we headed for the Umpqua Boys and Girls Club, a facility in Roseburg that serves more than 300 kids on a daily basis.

The facility just underwent a major renovation, due in large part to the generosity of the Cow Creek band of the Umpqua tribe, our hosts. Nearly 100 kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA attended, and were greeted by Blaze, who made a day trip to take part in the tour.

The kids – many geared out in crimson and black – enjoyed the visit, and the free Blazers basketball they received as a reward for their participation! They looked up to Antonio, Michelle and the other counselors; we all signed several autographs after the camp (not something I often get asked to do.)

We split up to cover more ground in the afternoon, stopping by “The Score,” a new Roseburg affiliate, and talkin’ Trail Blazers, visiting YMCA with Blaze and spending some time visiting with the Cow Creek folks.

I’m new to Oregon and learning my new environs one city at a time. We took the long route to Klamath Falls (I don’t think there’s a short route!) and stopped for dinner and billiards at Diamond Lake. Beautiful country, and accommodating hosts all the way around!

We got into K-Falls at about 11 p.m., and were met by with a marquee welcome from the Red Lion…in one day, we signed autographs, did an interview and were welcomed on a marquee – we may not play for the Trail Blazers, but you wouldn’t know it from the welcome we have received.
