The Trail Blazers have supported after-school and mentoring programs for decades, rec ognizing the importance of having a safe place and a caring adult in the lives of young children.
The team has contributed $1.7 million to Portland-area programs, and partnered with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Friends of the Children, Multnomah County’s Reclaiming Futures project and St. Mary’s Home for Boys. Self Enhancement Inc. (SEI), a nationally recognized youth development program, serves thousands of children in Portland’s inner city, providing year-round academic, enrichment and family support programs. The team has donated more than $150,000 to SEI over the past nine years.
The Trail Blazers have been longtime supporters of Albina Head Start and their mission in preparing low-income preschoolers and their families for school. The Trail Blazers have donated thousands of books; funded a Spanish immersion program for teachers, parents and students; assisted with the renovation of playgrounds; facilitated the implementation of a reading mentorship program and invite the preschoolers, their parents and teachers to team events throughout the year.
