Albert Rider student recaps a Read to Achieve assembly
The Trail Blazers asked a student of Alberta Rider Elementary to recount the events at a recent "Read to Achieve" assembly
Hello everyone! I am Jordan Stephens, from Alberta Rider Elementary. I heard that every year the Blazer's pick two schools that they send two actual Blazer Players! Well guess what? They chose my school, Alberta Rider Elementary!
They came and talked to Kindergarteners through 5th graders about the '' Read To Achieve'' program. That's where you read, and then fill out a little slip. Then after a week, you turn it in. And you do that four times on four different slips.
Then if you read the most, you win a free Blazer ticket, and get to choose the day of your choice to go see them play. You have to chose off a list though.
Our principal Mr.Barnard, and our librarian Mrs. Scott asked all the kids, '' Name people on the Blazer team''. Then the announcer, (who I think had the name of Tony) introduced the two Blazers: Von Wafer and Raef Lafrentz ( I think that's how you spell his last name!) came.
Their mascot Blaze came too. He sprayed Silly String on everyone, it was hilarious!
They got up and Tony explained why they were there. Then three kids, Alexandra, J.C, and, Michael went up and Tony asked them questions about Blaze. They were handed a card, which had the answers. They read it off and Blaze was acting very funny well they read off the answers. He was giving thumbs up, nodding his head, and other things.
Von and Raef talked about the “Read to Achieve” program to encourage kids to read. They donated about $ 500 to the schools Art Literature program. They also donated a signed basketball.
Our school is having an auction, we might auction it off for a family to keep, or put it in a sealed case in the hallway so everyone can enjoy it. That's still to be decided. More silly string came from Blaze, and everyone cheered and laughed.
Everyone left, and I asked Von, Raef, and Tony a few questions. I asked them each three questions:
-- What was your favorite book when you were little?
-- Did you read on the road? If so, what did you read?
-- What was your favorite subject in school?
They were GREAT! Von, Raef, Tony, Blaze, and everyone else who came, if you’re reading this: You were all AWESOME! Thanks for coming!
And that what happened.
