The Portland Trail Blazers open their 2008-09 home schedule on Friday, Oct. 31, vs. the San Antonio Spurs at the Rose Garden, three days after tipping off their 39th NBA season on the road vs. the L.A. Lakers on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

The games against the Lakers (TNT) and Spurs (ESPN) are part of a 13-game national TV schedule that features five games on ESPN and eight contests on TNT. All 82 Trail Blazers games will air locally on KGW-8, Comcast SportsNet, ESPN or TNT. Portland’s complete broadcast schedule will be available in the coming weeks.

The Trail Blazers play 16 of their first 24 games on the road, but ring in the holiday season with eight home games in December, including a season-long, five-game homestand from Dec. 23-Jan. 2. For the second straight year, Portland will be featured nationally on Christmas Day when it faces Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks at the Rose Garden.

Among the top teams making the trip to the Rose City in 2008-09: the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics on Dec. 30; defending Western Conference champion L.A. Lakers on March 9 and April 10; Chris Paul’s New Orleans Hornets on Nov. 28 and Jan. 2; Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets on Nov. 6; and LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 21.

Portland will take on 10 of 14 Western Conference opponents twice at home and twice on the road, while playing Golden State, Dallas, Sacramento and Houston only three times apiece. Of those matchups, the Trail Blazers host Sacramento and Dallas twice, and Houston and Golden State once. The club will face each Eastern Conference team twice.

The Trail Blazers close out the 2008-09 NBA regular season at home on Wednesday, April 15, with a nationally televised game against the Denver Nuggets.
