MILWAUKEE --
The Milwaukee Bucks signed Joe Alexander to a multi-year contract, General Manager John Hammond announced today. Alexander (6-8, 230 lbs) was the eighth overall selection in the 2008 NBA Draft and will participate in the 2008 Las Vegas Summer League with the Bucks (July 12-20).
Today marks the opening of practice for the Bucks five-game Las Vegas Summer League schedule that begins Saturday against Memphis. The Bucks schedule also includes games against Detroit (July 15), Denver (July 17), Minnesota (July 19) and Cleveland (July 20). Bucks.com will provide updates on all of the Bucks summer league action.
Alexander joined the Bucks following a three-year collegiate career at West Virginia. The 21-year-old forward earned First Team All-Big East Honors during the 2007-08 season and was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press. During the 2008 NCAA Tournament, Alexander averaged 18.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while helping the 10th seeded Mountaineers reach the Sweet Sixteen of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. West Virginia’s run included a second round upset over second-seeded Duke.
The junior forward led West Virginia in scoring (16.9, eighth in the Big East), rebounding (6.4) and blocked shots (1.5, eighth) in 2007-08.
Alexander was born in Taiwan and also spent time in China and Hong Kong as he lived abroad for the first eight years of his life. When he steps on the court for the first time, he will become the first Taiwanese-born player to play in the NBA.
