Wilson Chandler: Minutes Taking Toll
Update: Chandler, playing more minutes than ever before in his young NBA career, has made just 9-of-26 shots from the field and has committed seven turnovers and in the last two games.
Analysis: Chandler has been forced to play big minutes of late because the Knicks have been shorthanded. Eighteen of his 33 turnovers this season have come in the last five games. "This is pretty much his rookie year in terms of getting minutes," Quentin Richardson, who like Chandler attended DePaul, told the New York Daily News. "When you're playing all those minutes your legs get tired, you get tired mentally and you have to fight through it." Chandler has been playing primarily at power forward and been brilliant at times. However, because of injuries at the perimeter, he's been forced to play some small forward and shooting guard, but those positions tend to expose his ballhandling weakness, making it harder for him to succeed. "I'm frustrated with myself," Chandler said. "Last year I didn't play much and now I'm playing a lot. We have a new coach and new president and I'm learning. I've been a little inconsistent."
Cuttino Mobley: Retirement Report Disputed
Update: A source close to Mobley's thinking said the player is not considering retirement because of his heart condition and wants to continue playing, Newsday reports.
Analysis: Mobley is continuing a tour of heart specialists on Friday as the Knicks acquire as much medical information possible.
Nate Robinson: (Groin) Expected to Miss Friday's Game
Update: Robinson (groin) is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game on Friday, the New York Post reports.
Analysis: It had been reported earlier in the week that Robinson may play Friday when the Knicks face the Hawks, so there's a slight chance the explosive scorer could return, but we'd play it safe and keep him out of your lineups. Robinson is posting career-highs in minutes (29.7 mpg), points (14.5 ppg), rebounds (4.5 rpg), assists (4.2 apg), field-goal shooting (47.0%) and 3pt shooting (40.3%) in coach Mike D'Antoni's free-wheeling system.
Jared Jeffries: (Leg) Season Debut Friday
Update: Jeffries, who fractured his fibula on the third day of training camp, is expected to make his season debut, playing about 15 minutes Friday night against Atlanta, the New York Post reports.
Analysis: At 6-11, Jeffries will be the tallest Knick on the court, and he'll be able to keep David Lee fresh at center. Eventually, we see him being a significant part of the rotation, capable of playing and defending three positions. He's not a great shot maker -- and he's atrocious from the free-throw line -- but there could be some value in the rebounds and steals categories if he's getting 30 minutes a night. During training camp, Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni was comparing Jeffries to Boris Diaw, so you can expect a lot of variety in how he's deployed.
Andrei Kirilenko: May Return Friday Night
Update: Kirilenko (ankle) is hoping to return for Friday night's game against Toronto the Deseret News reports. He has been out for the last two games.
Analysis: He is still listed as questionable for Friday night. Ankle injuries can be tough to come back from and we would be hesitant to put him into your line-up unless there is an available spot until you see him play in a game. He has averaged 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as the Jazz sixth man.
Martell Webster: Not Playing Against Celtics
Update: Webster (foot) will not play against the Celtics on Friday night, the Oregonian reports.
Analysis: He was originally targeting this game as his return date, but the Blazers don't have any plans to rush Webster back. Webster is currently traveling with the team, but isn't expected to play as they close out a five-game Eastern Conference road trip this weekend.
