Marc Gasol to launch health challenge for kids in Memphis
Summer-long competition between Marc’s team of kids and team of kids in Los Angeles led by Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers to see who can live a healthier summer. Coach of Losing team will be forced to shave beard.
In conjunction with the upcoming launch of the Gasol Foundation, dedicated to empowering young people to live healthier lives, Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol hosted a pep rally with local middle schoolers at the Porter Goodwill Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis.
At the kickoff event, Marc encouraged the kids to spend their summer engaging in healthy activities and lead his team’s first event of the summer.
The competition, called “The Healthy Competition 2013,” running from June 10-Aug. 2, will pit Marc’s team against his brother Pau’s team in Los Angeles to see which team can live a healthier summer.
“The Healthy Competition” program will encourage students to eat healthy and engage in increased physical activity throughout the summer.
Each team will be gifted Nike FuelBands (retail $149) to track their daily activity and monitor their team’s overall progress. The winning team, announced on Aug. 2, will receive a special prize and the losing coach will have to shave his beard.
