busy preseason schedule
The Indiana Pacers will return to Pepsi Coliseum, their original home court, Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7:00 p.m. when they host New Orleans in their National Basketball Association preseason opener.
The game marks the first time since 1974 the team has played a game at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, which was the Pacers’ home from their first game on Oct. 14, 1967, until the end of the 1973-74 season. During those seven seasons of play at the Coliseum, the Pacers won three ABA Championships.
“We’re excited to return to our roots and the place where the strong tradition of Pacers Pride began,” said Jim Morris, Pacers Sports & Entertainment’s President. “Since Pepsi Coliseum is an integral part of our past, we think it’s a great opportunity to tie our past to our present with the first public appearance of our new 2008-09 roster.”
As part of the Pacers’ commitment to the Indianapolis community, proceeds from the game will benefit three local charities: Red Cross of Greater

“The Pacers’ roots are right here at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Pepsi Coliseum, and this is a great way to bring back a lot of wonderful memories for longtime Pacers fans,” State Fairgrounds’ Executive Director Cindy Hoye said. “The Pepsi Coliseum is still a great sports venue, and this is going to be an exciting night for everyone involved.”
That will be the first of four home games for the team. The Pacers will host Chicago, Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:00 p.m. at a site to be announced Aug. 21; Dallas, Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m.; and Indianapolis’ Mike Conley and the Memphis Grizzlies, Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:00 p.m.
The Pacers four road preseason games will be at Memphis, Monday, Oct. 13 (8:00 p.m.); at San Antonio, Saturday, Oct. 18 (8:30 p.m.); at New Orleans, Tuesday, Oct. 21 (8:00 p.m.) and at Dallas, Thursday, Oct. 23 (8:30 p.m.). All preseason games will be carried on radio (WFNI, 1070 The Fan).
The Pacers will open the NBA’s regular season, Wednesday, Oct. 29, when they head to Detroit to face the Pistons (8:00 p.m.); and will host the defending NBA Champion Boston Celtics in their home opener at Conseco Fieldhouse, Saturday, Nov. 1 (7:00 p.m.).
