After watching New Orleans Pelicans second-year player Anthony Davis rack up 22 points during the USA Basketball showcase game on July 25 in Las Vegas, many observers noted that the 6-foot-10 power forward seems to have improved and extended his shooting range. On Monday in Lexington, Ky., the 20-year-old truly showed some considerable long-distance accuracy, draining this 55-footer after being fouled near the end of the first half.
Davis visited the University of Kentucky earlier this week to play in the Wildcats’ annual Alumni Game on Monday, prior to returning to New Orleans to continue voluntary workouts with Pelicans teammates. Alas, Davis’ heave from beyond the halfcourt stripe didn’t count and his White squad dropped a 111-95 decision to the Blue team. John Wall piled up 40 points for the Blue team, in a game featuring a multitude of current NBA players. Also a University of Kentucky product who joined Davis on the school's 2011-12 national championship-winning team, Pelicans second-year small forward Darius Miller was unable to play due to his left foot stress fracture injury.
