LAS VEGAS, July 20 - Summer sensation Donte Greene scored 22 points to lead a three-pronged attack as the Houston Rockets defeated the Sacramento Kings, 98-91, in the final game of the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS on Sunday night.
Greene scored a league-high 40 points in his first game here and rarely let up, surprising teammates, opponents and observers.
Rookie Maarty Leunen scored 21 points and second-year guard Aaron Brooks added 20 for the Rockets (3-2).
The first half was tightly contested, featuring 12 lead changes and 10 ties before the Kings grabbed a 52-50 edge at intermission. Greene and Leunen drove the offense for Houston, combining for 31 points. Spencer Hawes led Sacramento with 14 points.
The Rockets pulled ahead by 11 points in the third quarter before taking a 75-70 lead into the final period. The Kings got as close as 92-89 but no closer.
Hawes scored 22 points, rookie Jason Thompson contributed 21 and nine rebounds and Shelden Williams added 20 and nine for Sacramento (3-2).
