2000 Suns Training Camp
October 2, 2013
With our return to Flagstaff this year, we dug out our first-ever digital camera, which we first used at training camp to post daily photo galleries on Suns.com in 1999. And yes, that is a floppy disk!
Although we couldn't find any of those first digital photos (we probably didn't have enough floppy disks to save them), we did find a wealth of shots from our 2000 training camp, also taken with our vintage Sony Mavica.
In 2000, the Suns held their training camp workouts at Northern Arizona University's Walkup Skydome.
The city of Flagstaff welcomed the Suns.
The Suns brought the Phoenix Mercury's hardwood up to Flagstaff in 2000, setting it alongside the Lumberjacks in the NAU Skydome.
Suns Head Coach Scott Skiles preached defense during the team's training camp.
Veteran guard Mario Elie shared a laugh with second-year forward Shawn Marion during a break in camp.
Rookie center Jake Tsakalidis had a translator with him during his first NBA training camp.
In between workouts, Suns players ate lunch together in Flagstaff.

Injuries prevented Corie Blount, Penny Hardaway and Tom Gugliotta from participating in the daily workouts.
Strength coach Robin Pound put the injured Suns through a water workout at the NAU Aquatic Center.
Hardaway averaged 16.8 points, 5.8 boards and 5.0 assists in 1999-2000, but would only play four games in 2000-01 as he dealt with a knee injury.
Kidd heads to the team bus, ready for another workout.
The Suns' coaching staff reviews tape between drills.
Suns guard Tony Delk shot pool at a local pub after an evening workout.
The Suns took a break during their week of workouts and visited local schools in Flagstaff.
Forward Clifford Robinson
Suns alumni, including Tom Chambers, John Shumate and Connie Hawkins, visited with patients at a Flagstaff hospital.
TC and Hawk also paid visits to local schools to encourage students.
Suns forward Rodney Rogers took time to talk with students from a nearby Native American reservation before the team's public scrimmage.
Kidd spent time with some Flagstaff children before the scrimmage.
The Suns Gorilla had a little fun with Louie the Lumberjack during a timeout.
Suns coaching legend Cotton Fitzsimmons welcomed the fans in attendance for the team's intra-squad scrimmage.
Suns broadcasters Al McCoy and Eddie Johnson took in the scrimmage from courtside.
Skiles coached the white squad.
Assistant coach Frank Johnson coached the black squad.
The Suns Dancers entertained fans during a timeout.
Penny posed for photos with fans after the scrimmage.
And Shawn Marion signed autographs for excited fans.
